A HOT SUNDAY MORNING IN SALINA, KANSAS (JULY 27th, 2014) always means fun, excitement, and, a truly GREAT Interview Session with my friends GEORGE "King of the Kustomizers" BARRIS, and, JOHN D'AGOSTINO, at the KKOA Leadsled Spectacular...and the 34th Annual KKOA Event proved right-on-target !
AND, at the 2014 Event, we added our good friend, TONY WOOD, to the mix. Tony is one of the TV/Movie Industries busiest Pros, as he is the "go-to-guy" in Hollywood...the vehicle/shuttle/all-around supplier for most of the main TV studios & film makers. He also travels with George Barris to almost all of George's events & appearances...and has been with George for about 40 years.
DURING THE COURSE OF THE INTERVIEW, you will also hear me truly humbled by the warm, wonderful words of George & John concerning our mission to spread the word of Rods & Customs around the World here on the Hall Of Fame Legends Series WebSite.
SPECIAL NOTE: SADLY, THIS WOULD BE the last Interview Session that George, John, and, I, would do. Every year, from 2006 to 2014, we made it a Sunday Morning Tradition: The three of us getting together to talk cars, have fun, and, do Interviews before we all left Kansas to go home.
In 2015 I had a death in the family that prevented me from going to Salina, and George had scheduled a trip to Australia where he would be the Featured Guest at a major show there. So neither of us went to Kansas that year.
George would become ill after his return, and, pass-away Thursday, November 5th, 2015, at the age of 89.
George Barris was not only one of my R&C Heroes, he was my friend. Read my personal "TRIBUTE TO GEORGE BARRIS" by CLICKING-ON-THIS-LINK.
1. THIS YEAR'S SESSION WAS A SUPER-COOL ONE as we first discussed GEORGE BARRIS' newest concept kustom-rod: a '32 Deuce Hybrid that will blow-your-socks off ! The drawing you see here is the one George furnished me with to put on the HOFL Series Site to give you an idea of what it will be. And, you'll hear his excitement & passion for this build as you listen to the Interview.
2. MY CUZ, JOHN D'AGOSTINO, will debut not "one" but TWO fanastic kustoms this year ! So, in the Interview, he talks about the beautiful '68 Buick Riviera that he's unveiling...these are some "sneak peek" pix that you're looking at that John sent me. We also talk about the rare '58 Packard that's waiting "in the wings", and John gave me some Preview pix of the 2-place "concept-style" kustom that it will be when it's finished.
(Above Left: The "Pantheon" '68 Riviera in its early-build stage: Above Right: The "Pantheon" almost finished.)
(Above Left: The finsihed "Pantheon" ready to cruise on-the-street In the "upright" position. NOTE: The Riv is fully-bagged, and in "show mode" will be on the ground !; Above Right: The plush, beautiful interior of the "Pantheon" done by the legendary Bob Divine of Bob Divine Custom Interiors.)
(Above Left: Rare, stock, '58 Packard Hardtop; Center & Right: In-progress John's '58 Packard 2-place concept that will become "Rita"...this will be one AWESOME kustom !)
LIKE I SAID, JOHN IS UNVEILING TWO new kustoms again this year, so John called me the other night and was excited to tell me about the SECOND kustom he's bringing out this year: it's the "ELVIS III" the gorgeous '59 Caddy that you see here.
BUT WAIT,THERE'S MORE ! This beautiful creation was hand-crafted, sculptured-in-steel at CELEBRITY KUSTOMS IN MILAN, ITALY ! When John told me that I nearly dropped the phone ! When he sent me these pics I was truly amazed at the beauty of this phenominal machine. You HAVE to see this one in-person !!!
3. ALSO, as you will hear, our friend TONY WOOD explains how he keeps Hollywood's TV/Movie Industry supplied with cars, trucks, vans, motorhomes, and anything else they need...and still finds time to travel World Wide with George Barris and help at all the shows they attend ! He's one great guy !
