ELDEN TITUS' MOST FAMOUS QUOTE WAS: "Profile Is Everything !", and he proved that time-and-time again with the cars he built for himself...and for others.
Always changing, never wanting to "build the same car twice", Elden was a force in the Rod & Custom Industry for many, many years. His untimely death in October of 2008 left a void in the that will never easily be filled.
BUT, for all his talent & creativity, Elden was a mild-mannered, kind, generous individual that enriched the lives of all he touched.
IRONICALLY, even though he built many groundbreaking customs through the years, his breakthrough car was the beautiful, "space age", all-metal machine, that was styled like nothing else before it !
It was the VOODOO SPIDER, and, as with all of the cars that Elden built, it didn't just look cool...it was built to be driven ! In fact, when Elden & I first met in 2004 at Darryl Starbird's Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies & Car Show, Elden had the Spider there and while I was standing on the show grounds checking-out some of the customs, Elden pulled up next to me and asked me if I wanted a ride in it ! Really ?! Of course !! So I hopped-in and we took off around the grounds in the Voodoo Spider...and that was truly an experience to remember !!!

SO, IN THE VERY FIRST INTERVIEW that we did with Elden, and his brother, KKOA Founding President JERRY TITUS, for the Hall Of Fame Legends Series on July 29th, 2006, at the 2006 KKOA Lead Sled Spectacular in Salina, I had to ask Elden & Jerry about working for Darryl Starbird in their early years.
Also, I wanted to know about Elden's '49 Buick kustom (shown here) ...and, of course, the iconic "VOODOO SPIDER", and where his inspiration for building that magnificent car had come from.
Turns out, that as with most of Elden's classic kustoms, it had started as a model that he and Jerry made...40 years earlier ! They started with an AMT '62 Thunderbird Kit...and Elden turned it into the "real life" Voodoo Spider !
I'VE HAD THIS INTERVIEW IN my Archives for all these years, it isn't very long, but I have been asked about the VOODOO SPIDER so many times that I wanted you to hear this to honor Elden for one of the neatest cars he ever built, and to fill you in on the early days that he & Jerry spent learning "how to do it right" under Darryl Starbird's guidance.
Thanks again, Elden, my friend...you were always t-h-e BEST ! AND, Jer, thanks for your continued help and support ! JK
