JOE BAILON BUILT HIS FIRST CUSTOM CAR IN 1936, painted it and added scallops in 1937...and, later, magically created "CANDY APPLE RED" !
DATELINE: JULY, 2012: A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO I got a call from JOHN D'AGOSTINO, and he wanted to share with me a super idea: We were going to meet-up in Salina at the 32nd Annual KKOA Leadsled Spectacular when he got back from Australia for our annual Sunday Morning Interview Session with John and, GEORGE BARRIS.
BUT, John said that since JOE "Candy Apple Red" BAILON was also going to be in Salina in 2012 it would be great if we would add him to our group...since I'd never had the opportunity to document his history on the HOF Legends Site before.
WELL ! I jumped at the chance, John said that he'd put the plan into action, and, what we ended-up with was one of the most unique and special Interview Sessions EVER for the Hall Of Fame Legends Series !
THREE HOF LEGENDS AT ONE TIME...for the very first time : George Barris, Joe Bailon, and, John D'Agostino !
A TRIBUTE TO JOE "CANDY APPLE RED" BAILON (March 18, 1923-September 25, 2017) :
(Joe's personal card given to me at our Interview Session)
JOE WAS IN FINE FORM that July 29th, 2012 Sunday Morning, did just a perfect job after he warmed-up to fact that we were recording his history, and gave me some of his fantastic personal stories . (Joe was currently in the process of building a clone of his iconic "Miss Elegance".)
IN THIS FIRST STORY, Joe gives his complete history from his earliest days, and explains how he got his love for cars and customizing 'em. Joe was almost 90 at the time, but his memories were strong and vivid !!
However, the input of BOTH George Barris & my Cuz, John D'Agostino was what made this Session truly HISTORIC ! SO, you'll also be hearing their stories, as usual, along with Joe's.
LISTEN & ENJOY this Historic HOF Legends Milestone...and, my humble thanks to Joe, George, and, Johnny D !
R.I.P. JOE, and, GEORGE. Thanks for your kindness & friendship...you will always be remembered, and you can never be replaced.
